Is the plenty of fish dating service still the king of free messaging?

Someone in another thread mentioned dating service in passing and it's been bugging me since.

The reviews I can find on dating service never say what the free tier actually lets you do.

My own attempt at dating service lasted a month and ended with me deleting three apps.

My checklist for dating service, in rough order of importance:

• How much plenty actually costs you when using dating service
• How dating service handles plenty compared with the bigger names
• Whether the free tier on dating service is genuinely usable or just a demo
• Whether messaging on dating service works without handing over card details
• How the plenty experience on dating service compares month to month

If you've actually used something relevant to dating service, I'd rather hear that than a recommendation you read somewhere.
