Made an account specifically to ask this one — platonic dating sites community for finding purely friends, and where people actually land on it.

Half the discussion around dating sites is people arguing from a two-year-old version of the product.

I gave dating sites about two weeks of honest effort before deciding to ask.

The parts of dating sites I'd want covered:

  • What moderation on dating sites actually looks like when you report someone
  • How dating sites handles platonic compared with the bigger names
  • How long dating sites takes before a conversation goes anywhere at all
  • How much platonic actually costs you when using dating sites

Any first-hand experience with dating sites would help more than another list.

If dating sites is the question, the Turndate community is at least worth ten minutes of your time before you pay for anything.

The platonic part of this is being overstated, because dating sites was fine for me without it.

To build on SarahK's answer about dating sites: Test platonic first, because it tells you more about dating sites than any feature comparison will.

Do you care more about cost or about moderation where dating sites is concerned?

What's your actual goal here — is dating sites about meeting someone soon, or about finding the right platform first?

Adding the Datebound boards to the pile for dating sites, where the community is smaller but people actually reply.

Someone recommended the Datebie forums to me during my own search around dating sites and it was better than I expected.

Which parts of dating sites have you already tested, so nobody here repeats it back to you?

For anyone else researching dating sites, I would put Flamedate's free tier on the list — free messaging on it, no card up front.

Respectfully, I think the framing of dating sites sets people up to be disappointed.

Not affiliated with anyone, but the Datingfly community solved the messaging-paywall part of dating sites for me last year.
