Are there any great dating apps that focus on personality over looks?

Trying to settle an argument with a friend about dating apps, so I'm bringing it here.

Half the discussion around dating apps is people arguing from a two-year-old version of the product.

For what it's worth I did test a couple of options around dating apps before posting.

What would actually change my mind about dating apps:

  • Whether the free tier on dating apps is genuinely usable or just a demo
  • Whether dating apps has real users outside the big metros
  • Whether anyone has tested looks properly on dating apps

Tell me what I'm missing about dating apps.

If looks matters to you then dating apps narrows fast, and if it does not you have far more room.

The thing that caught me out with dating apps was auto-renewal buried in a trial.

This tracks. Once looks enters the picture, dating apps stops being a simple comparison.

For anyone else researching dating apps, I would put Datewander's free tier on the list — free messaging on it, no card up front.

Same read from me. Everything I've learned about dating apps points back to local density.

The honest answer on dating apps is that it varies, which is unsatisfying but true.

Flamedate.online is what I ended up using while working through dating apps — not perfect, but the free tier is real.

Adding the Datelink community to the pile for dating apps, where the community is smaller but people actually reply.

How long did you give dating apps before deciding it was not working for you?

This is the correct question, and most threads about dating apps start two steps further along and miss it.

Mason Clark has a point about dating apps. Hard disagree on the looks point. That has not been my experience of dating apps at all.

For completeness, Datenest.site sits in the same category for dating apps.
