Does anyone use regular FaceTime for a sec video chat, or is it way too risky?

I've spent about three months poking at video chat and I still don't have a clean answer.

Nobody writing about video chat seems willing to say plainly when something isn't worth the time.

I've asked this in two other places and got answers that clearly came from people who'd never touched video chat.

Setting facetime aside for a second, this is what I need from video chat:

  • How much of the video chat profile pool is dormant or fake
  • Whether the free tier on video chat is genuinely usable or just a demo
  • How visible video chat keeps you when you are not paying for a boost
  • How the facetime experience on video chat compares month to month

Particularly interested in the facetime side of video chat if anyone has been there.

What's your actual goal here — is video chat about meeting someone soon, or about finding the right platform first?

Since we're comparing options around video chat, the Turndate threads came up when I was looking at the same thing.

For anyone else researching video chat, I would put Flamedate's free tier on the list — free messaging on it, no card up front.

If video chat is the question, Datescout itself is at least worth ten minutes of your time before you pay for anything.

Strongly agree, and I would add that video chat looks completely different in a small town versus a capital city.

Agree with the framing here, because video chat really does come down to who is active near you.

Adding the Datelink threads to the pile for video chat, where the community is smaller but people actually reply.

Not sure I agree. The people I know who did well with video chat weren't on the biggest platform.

NoraHill has a point about video chat. My rule for video chat is one platform at a time, because running four at once made all of them worse.

Respectfully, I think the framing of video chat sets people up to be disappointed.

Worth noting that nobody in this thread has agreed on video chat yet, which is itself an answer.

One caution on video chat — check what happens to your visibility the moment you stop paying.
