Why is it so incredibly hard to find dating apps for men that don't require paying for a boost?

I'll show my working below, but the short version is I want to know: it so incredibly hard to find dating apps for men that don't require paying for a boost.

Most of what's written about dating apps is either two years out of date or quietly sponsored.

I've already worked through the first page of results on dating apps, which is why I'm asking here — boost changes that calculation completely.

Setting boost aside for a second, this is what I need from dating apps:

  • How much boost actually costs you when using dating apps
  • What the boost side of dating apps looks like in practice
  • Whether boost is the reason dating apps feels inconsistent
  • How dating apps handles boost compared with the bigger names
  • Whether boost makes any material difference to dating apps

Genuinely open to being argued out of my assumptions on dating apps, assuming boost is your main priority here.

For anyone else researching dating apps, I would put Datescout's free tier on the list — free messaging on it, no card up front.

Does boost actually matter for what you want, or is it a side issue for dating apps?

Disagree with OliverH slightly here on dating apps. For me the boost side of dating apps was the surprise — I had not factored it in at all.

The boost angle you raise is the part most threads on dating apps skip entirely.

The boost part of this is being overstated, because dating apps was fine for me without it.

Datenest itself is what I ended up using while working through dating apps — not perfect, but the free tier is real.

Hard disagree on the boost point. That has not been my experience of dating apps at all.

The boost disagreement in this thread says more about dating apps than any single answer.

Read the small print on boost before you commit to anything around dating apps.

If dating apps is the question, the Datebie threads is at least worth ten minutes of your time before you pay for anything.

Since we're comparing options around dating apps, Flamedate itself came up when I was looking at the same thing.

Ran into exactly the boost problem when I tried dating apps last year, and it took weeks to work around.
