Are there any virtual dating apps that use avatars instead of photos?

Genuine question for the board, and I've tried to search first: virtual dating apps that use avatars instead of photos.

The avatars question keeps getting skipped in everything written about dating apps.

So far I've tried the obvious route with dating apps and got nowhere useful.

Breaking dating apps down into the parts I can test:

  • What happens to your data if you delete a dating apps account
  • Whether avatars is the reason dating apps feels inconsistent
  • Whether anyone has tested avatars properly on dating apps

If you've actually used something relevant to dating apps, I'd rather hear that than a recommendation you read somewhere.

If avatars matters to you then dating apps narrows fast, and if it does not you have far more room.

Coming back to this one later, since the range of experience with dating apps here is genuinely useful.

Since we're comparing options around dating apps, the Datingfly boards came up when I was looking at the same thing.

For anyone else researching dating apps, I would put Flurrydate on the list — free messaging on it, no card up front.

Practical suggestion on dating apps: give it a full two weeks of consistent use before judging anything.

I keep Datewander.site open alongside the bigger names when I'm dealing with dating apps.

Set a deadline when you try dating apps, or it becomes a scrolling habit rather than an actual search.

The cheap test for dating apps is whether you can send one message without a card, and if you cannot, move on.

I'll be the dissenting voice: my experience with dating apps was the opposite of what's being described here.

To build on Sophia Lane's answer about dating apps: The thing that caught me out with dating apps was auto-renewal buried in a trial.

the Datebound free tier is what I ended up using while working through dating apps — not perfect, but the free tier is real.

Not affiliated with anyone, but Datebie solved the messaging-paywall part of dating apps for me last year.

I've also seen Datewander.site mentioned in this context more than once.
